One of the things I most enjoy watching on YouTube is a good ‘every day makeup’ tutorial. No fancy slides, no cuts or edits- just real life, real time getting ready. My son watches one show (about 20 minutes) every morning during my daughter’s nap. I have exactly that long to get dressed and put together for the day, so I have the routine down to a science. This is the look I wear every day, which I snapped exactly one photo of before heading out the door and realized only now my nightgown was hanging in the background and my attempt at a half-smile failed royally. Real life at it’s finest!
I get ready in some form every day and while a couple days a week, that may look like workout tights, a sweatshirt, concealer, brows and mascara, other days it is a full face of very simple, quick and light makeup. I’ve loved makeup since I started flipping through my mom’s Vogues and even though I couldn’t wear makeup til’ I turned 16 (Mom. why.) I would sneak my mom and older sister’s makeup as often as I could to practice and feel grown up. I was always the one doing my friends’ makeup and as a Freshman, my Senior friends would come over before prom so I could give them a makeover!
But something changes when you have a baby. (If you do have a baby, that “something” probably made you laugh. LOTS of things change when you have a baby…) I suddenly felt selfish taking time to get ready, so for a few weeks I just didn’t. I wore the same schlumpy sweats, I spent no time getting ready in the morning aside from much needed deodorant and no time getting ready for bed aside from brushing my teeth. Do you want to know what happened? I felt as schlumpy as my sweatpants. I learned then and there the power of getting ready every single day. Not for anyone else or any other reason than I felt my best while put together. I take myself and my day more seriously when I take the 1o minutes or less to pull myself together for it.
One of my random qualities only my husband and siblings know about me is how much I enjoy watching makeup tutorials-specifically by British beauty bloggers. I absolutely cannot get enough. So as a quick disclaimer, if that’s your sort of thing too- this is not one of those. I have always been better sharing words on paper than I am at sharing them with a camera, so just know I have no intention on becoming a YouTube guru! It’s strictly the best place to share videos just like this, so I will do my best to get better at it. Another disclaimer- by the end of this video, Keogena had woken up and Oshiolema was loudly playing legos at my feet so there is no goodbye or conclusion, just an awkward wave. For your viewing pleasure! But I am so loyal to these products and would claim every single one of them favorites for life. This routine is fool-proof, friends. Try out the products for yourself-you won’t be disappointed!
Everyday Skin:
If I wear anything but lotion on my skin for day-to-day life, it’s Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer.
I wear the shade ‘Almond’ and if you’re someone who doesn’t want to have to blend foundation or have such a heavy look then this is for you. Tinted moisturizer will make your skin much more even and glory while being super light because of it’s lotion properties. I just put it on with my fingers so it couldn’t be easier. A step I never, ever skip thanks to my sparse and scary eyebrows is to fill those bad boys in. I like a really full brow so I spend the bulk of my time perfecting them. I’ve tried brow products in every price range and style and always come back to this product I fell in love with over 7 years ago. The Benefit Brow Zings is a beeswax and powder combo that comes with the perfect brow brush for structured brows. If I’m wanting to look even more put together, I’ll add a swipe of eyeshadow across my upper lid with the Tarte ‘In Bloom’ Eyeshadow Palette. Have you ever bought an album before listening to it all the way through and ended up only liking two songs? That’s how I always felt about eyeshadow palettes before this. But I have to say, I wear every single color in this Palatte and got rid of all my other eyeshadows. It’s that good!! I’ve had it for nearly a year now and it’s all I use.
To finish off my makeup for the day, I use Benefit Hoola Bronzer (yes, the one you used in high school) and NARS Blush in ‘Orgasm. Forgive the name, but this blush wins best blush in the industry year after year for a reason. I’ve yet to meet a person it doesn’t look fantastic on. Now, this next step might just be my favorite thing to recommend. I hunted down the J.Crew model’s makeup routine because their glow was unmatched. When I finally found out what the product was, I realized I’d been hearing about it everywhere all along! The RMS Beauty’Magic Luminizer has this way of making you look rested, bright, healthy and glowing from the inside out. I tap it on with my fingers above my cheekbone, on my brow bone and down my nose every day without fail. It’s my number one secret.
I hope you put on the video while you do the dishes, while you fold laundry or while you put on your own makeup in the morning.
